Clinical Preceptorship Program
Suwannee River AHEC partners with the UF College of Medicine and UF AHEC Program to offer the Clinical Preceptorship Program to first-year medical students at the end of the first semester of study. The purpose of the program is to introduce students to primary care and to place them in medically underserved communities to the extent possible. The long-term goal is to return students to careers in these communities as primary care physicians.
Each December, medical students complete almost three weeks of orientation and clinical experience. They work in the practices of primary care physicians and take medical histories, complete physical examinations, and present assigned patients to their physician-preceptors. This program is the first clinical experience offered to UF’s medical students.
Annually, more than 50 primary care physicians from Suwannee River AHEC’s 12-county service area participate in this program. Preceptors must complete a short 1- page form to be added as program faculty. For more information about the clinical preceptorship program, contact the program’s director
Dr. Rob Hatch at UF, 352-273-5157.
