Screenings

Why Screen?

Screening programs can be valuable adjuncts to regular prevention activities or as an employee benefit during staff retreats or health/recognition fairs.  Screenings do not prevent disease, but are early detection mechanisms meant to catch disease sooner, rather than later, so that action can be taken as quickly as possible.  Detecting disease early reduces pain, suffering and costs associated with treatment.

What Does it Cost?

Costs for screening services depend on staff availability, equipment type, forms and materials needed and testing supplies used.  Some of our screenings are very low cost, like the body composition analysis, while others have a much high per-person price tag.

How do you Follow Up?

Education and counseling are provided with all our screenings.  Suwannee River AHEC has different follow-up procedures depending on the screening test performed, venue and who (staff) will be available at the event. Screenings cannot be performed on children.

We offer:
  • Bone density screenings
  • Carbon Monoxide testing*
  • Body composition analysis**
  • Hand washing assessments (fun!)
  • Waist circumference/BMI risk factors/analysis
  • Hand grip strength testing
  • Scannable health questionnaires (per your needs & interests)
  • Nutrition/health related group games and quizzes (per your needs & interests)
  • Blood pressure or blood glucose testing

*Carbon Monoxide (CO) testing is a measure of CO in a person’s lungs.  Non-smokers living & working in a non-smoking environment have the lowest CO measures.  CO values have identified health effects.

**Body composition analysis is performed via bioelectrical impedance scale. Results include: weight, % body fat, % body water, muscle mass, a physique rating representing a ratio between muscle mass and fat, bone mass, basal metabolic rate, a metabolic age rating and a visceral fat rating.  This is a fun and simple analysis that is new to most people.
