“Learn by doing” is a timeless adage that well-describes Suwannee River AHEC’s interest in student education and training. We work closely with our community partners in underserved areas to provide health professions students at the University of Florida, Santa Fe College, and Gateway College with clinical training opportunities. Participating students are enrolled in colleges, schools, and programs in medicine, physician assisting, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, dental assisting and more. Clinical training experiences multiply the health care services available to rural and underserved communities while affording benefits to students, health professionals and members of the community.
Internships and service-learning experiences are available for
graduate students. In these programs, students tackle the issues submitted by community partners in county health departments, schools, public health agencies and health professionals in practice. Students apply knowledge from the classroom to issues that promote development of intermediate to advanced skills. As they complete their internships and projects, students find satisfaction in knowing that they have created positive change in local communities and health agencies.
